What Type of Energy Tariff is Octopus Flux?
Octopus Flux is a combination tariff specifically for solar panels and storage owners. As a three rate energy tariff, Octopus Flux combines both your import and smart export guarantee tariff into one.
As a flexible tariff, this means that the rate and standing charge per kWh can rise and fall with wholesale energy prices. When the Octopus’ flexible tariff changes, such will the price of Octopus Flux.
How Does Octopus Flux Work?
Octopus Flux aims to optimise your import and export tariff, and provide homeowners with the best rates for consuming and selling their solar energy. The symmetrical import/export tariffs have three price periods throughout the day.
- Super cheap rates between 02:00 - 05:00 every day, when you can top up your battery with any extra energy you may need. You may also charge your Electric Car at this time, as you will be happy to hear, Octopus Flux is compatible with Electric Vehicles.
- A peak rate between 16:00 - 19:00. This is the best time to discharge your battery and export your surplus energy back to the grid.
- A flat day rate that covers all other time periods.
How Do I sign up for Octopus Flux Tariff?
In order to be eligible for Octopus Energy’s new solar and storage tariff, Octopus Flux, you will need to have solar panels installed first, and a smart meter.

If you already have solar panels installed, first and foremost thank you for doing your part for our planet! If you are an existing Octopus energy customer, you can switch to Octopus Flux by completing this simple online form. The tariff isn’t subject to any particular brand of solar panels or storage, and all you will need is your MCS certificate in order to be eligible.
New customers wishing to switch to Octopus Energy, will need to sign up on the standard Octopus Flexible tariff first, and then switch to the Octopus Flux tariff.
