Meet David Norman: Managing Director of Deege Solar

We recently sat down with Managing Director, David Norman, to discuss his journey from trademans to buisness owner, to professional golfer (he wishes).
David essentially fell into the solar industry, and grew up surrounded by the technology. Since then he has built an emotional attachment to the goal of renewable energy.

For me, Solar is something I will never not be a part of. Being on the front line of the transition towards sustainability is an overwhelming feeling. I am attached for life.

Where it all began
David originally came from a roofing background. He first started installing Solar panels, backed by the Feed-in tariff. That was 12 years ago now. Several Solar PV courses and an electrical apprenticeship later, solar is now David’s field of expertise. As he became more aware of the impact humanity was having on the planet, he felt obliged to change it.

We started by providing a variety of installation services to companies up and down the country. From this, we managed to build a network and gain insight and experience into the products, technology and industry itself.

It was in 2017 that this business venture was officially branded Deege Solar. Where David, now along with a team of family and friends, began installing Solar Panels for several award-winning companies nationwide. And as of last year, the team decided to take their service directly to the consumer themselves.
FUN FACT: Did you know that David named Deege Solar after himself? Deege was a nickname David developed through his friends, and it is safe to say it stuck around.

We've used our experience on the back end of solar, the installations and operations side, to approach solar from a different perspective. As specialists in these areas, we have managed to refine these processes down to the margin, increasing savings, which we are then offering to the consumer. Hence why the price is so good

How having solar installed changed his life
Once he had fallen in love with the technology, David was eager to get it onto his own property. Even though it was only a small 1.5kw system, with 6 250w Solar panels, his bill went from £200- £300 a quarter to £40. Leading to the system paying for itself in only 4 years.

Living with solar is great. It is a bill I don't have to worry about. Even if I put the install cost in a bank account, I wouldn't make the same amount back on the interest. We predict that this system will pay for itself in 6 years. We are doing our part, and it's something I wouldn't be without.

Our not so secret mission
David is fully committed to developing a legacy with Deege Solar. He believes in the products and wants to see Solar installed everywhere. As a company, we are here for the long run, to make a difference and to transform the way the world produces and views energy.

We want Deege Solar to stand for trust, to be a reliable and friendly source for all things related to solar. We want people to be able to ask questions, no matter how stupid, and feel comfortable doing so. We don’t expect our customers to know everything, but we do expect them to get the high quality of service they deserve.
As a rather new technology, I have witnessed first-hand companies take advantage of those naive to what solar energy really is, and maximising profit from that. Here at Deege Solar, we want to be transparent, and that starts by offering solar at a fair, accessible price. Solar should be simple, and available to everyone.

You can never predict what the future is going to look like, but David hopes that Deege Solar will be continuing to push boundaries and start to become innovators.
