System was installed just over a year ago. Generated 8MW over the year from an East/West roof. No problems with operation but had a question re the generation meter and after sales service was good.

I was made aware of Upvolt through a comparison site that provides details of local suppliers. I’m very pleased with my experience with Upvolt and would recommend them, from Keith doing the initial assessment providing clear advice on process and potential returns on the installation. Sharon & Jemma in the office provided the documentation and gave me updates on timings etc. Then the installation guys who were courteous and professional during the installation. Overall I’m glad I chose Upvolt and would recommend them to others.

Great people to deal with. The quote was competitive and the installation went exactly as promised. The scaffolders arrived the day before installation day and got everything prepared. On installation day the crew arrived on time and got straight to work. They finished mid afternoon and left everything tidy. Next day a van arrived to collect all the used packaging and rubbish and a couple of days later the scaffolding was taken down and everything left in good order.

Helpful to know.
Most homes are well-suited for heat pumps, but a few factors will affect performance and efficiency. Good insulation, modern radiators or underfloor heating, and adequate outdoor space for the heat pump unit all improve suitability. During our consultation, we assess your property’s energy efficiency, room layout, and heating needs to design a tailored system. Even older homes can benefit from heat pumps with some upgrades, such as improved loft insulation or pipework adjustments.
Installation costs typically range from £7,000 to £15,000, depending on the type (air or ground source), the size of your home, and any system upgrades needed, like new radiators or a hot water cylinder. While the upfront cost may seem high, it can be reduced through government schemes like the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (currently offering up to £7,500). Over time, energy savings and low maintenance costs help offset the initial investment, making heat pumps a smart long-term choice for many households.
Yes, especially if you're replacing oil, LPG, or electric heating. Heat pumps use electricity to move heat rather than generate it, achieving efficiency levels of 300% or more. This means for every unit of electricity used, you get three or more units of heat. Combined with a well-insulated home and smart controls, you can see significant reductions in heating bills. Pairing with solar panels or off-peak tariffs further boosts savings. We provide personalised estimates during your quote so you can see the financial impact upfront.
A standard air-source heat pump installation usually takes 2–4 days, while ground-source systems may take a week or more due to the groundwork involved. Our team manages everything: removal of old systems (if needed), electrical upgrades, cylinder replacement, and setup of smart controls. We aim for minimal disruption and keep you informed at every stage. After installation, we test the system thoroughly and walk you through how to use it effectively, so you're comfortable and confident with your new setup.
Yes. Today’s heat pumps are built to perform efficiently even in low outdoor temperatures, often as low as -15°C. Thanks to advanced compressor technology and refrigerants, they maintain reliable heating output in typical UK winter conditions. While they may operate slightly less efficiently in freezing weather, their overall performance still far exceeds traditional electric heating. Proper system sizing and installation are key to ensuring your home stays warm and comfortable throughout the year, regardless of weather.
For most homes in England and Wales, installing an air-source heat pump falls under permitted development rights, meaning you don’t need planning permission, provided certain conditions are met (e.g., placement of the unit, noise levels, and property type). However, listed buildings or homes in conservation areas may require permission. We handle these details for you, conducting checks and managing any necessary applications to ensure your installation is compliant with local regulations.
Heat pumps are known for their low maintenance needs compared to traditional boilers. An annual service is recommended to check refrigerant levels, clean filters, inspect components, and update system software. This keeps the system running efficiently, protects your warranty, and extends its lifespan, which can exceed 15 years with proper care. Our team offers ongoing service plans and remote performance monitoring, so we can spot any issues early and keep everything operating smoothly without the guesswork.
Yes, getting both solar panels and a heat pump for a residential home is a smart and efficient choice. Solar panels are highly effective at generating electricity from sunlight, which directly reduces your electricity bill—especially during the day when energy use is high. Heat pumps, on the other hand, are excellent at efficiently heating water and providing space heating, significantly lowering your gas bill if you're switching from a gas boiler or water heater. Together, these systems complement each other: the solar panels generate clean electricity, which can then power the heat pump. This synergy maximises your home's energy efficiency, reduces reliance on fossil fuels, and cuts both gas and electricity costs. Overall, it's a sustainable and cost-effective upgrade for most homes.
